We feed the wold

Erwin Wagenhofer- We Feed The World

documentary movie –  2005,  Austria
movie locations: France, Spain, Romania, Switzerland, Brazil and Austria.

A very good concise movie about the dark side of global food industry. It shows very well that the consumer have the power to change all this by being well informed and of course – act

“Every day in Vienna the amount of unsold bread sent back to be disposed of is enough to supply Austria’s second-largest city, Graz.”

It’s an ugly contrast between the bread as symbol of Jesus’s body and this bread as garbage.

You can watch the whole movie on YouTube here, or you can watch only the bread part (from 2.15 minute). It is splitted in 10 parts as you can see it on the right side “Playlist”. You can read more on the movie’s website.

Supermarket breads

Vancsa Domokos

thought – 2008 June

Several time when I left my home Saint George for a longer period,  one of the missed “object” was the bread – a traditional one, made from wheat and potato in Bodok, a village near the town. I am thousands  kilometers away from home, my parents can’t send me “the bread” so every day I buy other ones here in Ireland, mostly form supermarkets like Tesco. The racks are full and you should have to choose from, but there is nothing similar to my favorite one, and I still didn’t find a substitute.  I stay always more at bread section and try to get down one. I saw other eastern European figures who also search and hope that they will find the “home-bread” in this foreign supermarket.
